Spring means new beginnings. This new begin equals a big clear-out. People in the Middle East and China link this big spring cleaning to prosperity and positive energy. The house is shaken: literally and metaphorically. Curtains, closets, silverware, clothing and carpets. Nothing remains untouched.
But.. why do we feel the need to start cleaning with the coming of spring? That’s because we are telling the winter goodbye and we are able to finally open the windows and doors again. Hello sunshine!
Despite that people in Europe and the UK put a lesser value on the spring cleaning than other continents, we still associate the spring with positivity. Even if this is for our biological clock only. 1.Clean the windows
As soon as the weather gets better, dirty windows are the first thing to show. The windows are a big factor for the image of your house. That’s why you should start with this first.
Make sure you declutter before you start cleaning. And we mean REALLY cleaning. Throw away anything you don’t need or use anymore. Avoid the temptation to throw things into a drawer, because soon you will have to do it all over.
3.Top to bottom
The thought is to clean the things you usually overlook during your cleaning routines. So get into every hole, crack and corner.
4.Sort your wardrobe
Divide your clothing by season and decide what clothing you really need upcoming period. Take your coats and dirty clothes to the dry cleaner and sort your socks.
5.Tackle the kitchen
Deep clean your kitchen. Clean the cabinets from the inside and outside. Sort your herbs and oil. Replace your old mops by new ones, clean the fridge and defrost the freezer. Check the expiration date and discard outdated products.
Finally, you start with your balcony and/or garden. Remove green built of your patio furniture, wash the pillow covers and replace decoration.
